How a VRU Works
Vapor Recovery
Platinum’s Vapor Recovery Units (VRU) are designed to meet the newly established EPA compliance standards by capturing at least 95% of emissions from storage tanks. Vapors captured by a VRU can be recycled and used on-site or transferred to the sales pipeline to increase revenue.
Compliance
Per EPA regulation “Quad-O”: “Each new, modified or reconstructed storage vessel with 6 or more tons of vapor emissions per year must reduce emissions by 95%.”
There are generally two acceptable methods to achieve compliance with the EPA standard:
1. Capturing, compressing and selling the gas with a VRU
2. Burning the gas with a flare or combustor and proving ignition
Flaring as a main option may not be a long-term strategy due to the strengthening environmental regulations
